Trump Jesus-Like Image Posted on Sunday night, President Donald Trump sparked a huge religious controversy. He then launched a brutal assault on Pope Leo XIV. Not long after, under an hour later, he shared an AI-made picture of himself dressed like Jesus on Truth Social.
Trump appears wearing loose, flowing robes in the image. He gently sets his bright hand on the sick man’s body as he lies in the hospital bed. Nurses, soldiers, and angelic troops surround him. Trump stands with the Statue of Liberty and the Lincoln Memorial behind him. Fighter jets and bald eagles fly over him in the sky.
The Feud With Pope Leo XIV
The showdown started after a Sunday evening episode of 60 Minutes aired. So, three American cardinals spoke out against Trump’s immigration crackdown and his Iran foreign policy. Soon after, Trump lashed out on Truth Social with a long rant.
“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy,” Trump wrote publicly.
Trump pushed it even more. He even took credit for Leo’s election as pope, implying the Church picked an American leader just to handle Trump.
“Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, he was a shocking surprise. He wasn’t on any list to be Pope,” Trump added.
That night, Trump stuck to it. At Joint Base Andrews, he told reporters that he doesn’t believe the Pope is doing a very good job. He even claimed the Pope “likes crime,” then added he’s “not a fan of Pope Leo.”
Why Is the Pope Criticizing Trump?
Pope Leo XIV condemned Trump’s plan to wipe out a “whole civilization” in Iran, calling it “truly unacceptable.” Three days later, he added that “God does not bless any conflict.”
Three American cardinals on 60 Minutes said US. voters “really didn’t vote for this,” pointing specifically to Trump’s tough immigration policies.
Pope Leo told people in Rome that Jesus “does not hear the prayers of those who fight,” and “turns them away,” a message many observers saw as aimed straight at Trump.
Backlash Even From MAGA
Even Trump’s closest allies pushed back strongly. Former MAGA congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene condemned the image on X, saying, “I completely denounce this, and I’m praying against it!!!” She called it “more than blasphemy” and warned it was “an Antichrist spirit.”
Conservative pundit Carmine Sabia said, “I back Trump on most issues, but I’ll always put my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ first, before any man or woman.”Trump’s actions were disgraceful.
Religious scholars, too, reacted in alarm. Papacy specialist Massimo Faggioli told Reuters that even Hitler or Mussolini never confronted the pope as openly and directly.
Polls Show Mounting Concern
Public opinion is shifting, with more people backing Pope Leo than Trump. An NBC poll says most registered U. S. voters have a more favorable opinion of the Pope. About 42% feel positively about Leo, but just 8% view him negatively. Meanwhile, Trump’s approval rating is down by 12 points overall.
A Pew Research Center poll found that Trump’s approval fell sharply among almost every religious group, Catholics, evangelicals, and non-evangelical Protestants included, compared with the start of his second term.
Pope Leo Responds
Still, Pope Leo would not give in. On Monday, he said out loud he isn’t afraid of the Trump administration. He also disputed Trump’s version of what he said about the Iran war, and he set the record straight with the Associated Press.
So, the gap between the White House and the Vatican has never seemed wider. What started as a simple political disagreement has grown into something never seen before, a fight between the world’s most powerful political office and the leader of 1.4 billion Catholics.
