Trump Threatens Iran Energy Attack as Tehran Rejects US Deal

Trump Threatens Iran Energy Attack as President Donald Trump issued a stark warning on Monday. He threatened to completely destroy Iran’s energy and water infrastructure if negotiations collapse. Trump posted the threat on Truth Social, claiming “great progress” in ongoing talks.

However, Tehran firmly pushed back. Iranian officials called the US 15-point peace proposal “unrealistic” and “unreasonable.” Furthermore, they denied that any direct talks with Washington had taken place.

Trump specifically threatened to destroy Iran’s electric generating plants, oil wells, Kharg Island, and possibly all desalination plants. Additionally, he told the Financial Times that his “preference would be to take the oil” and consider seizing Kharg Island.

Meanwhile, global markets reacted sharply. Brent crude crossed $116 a barrel on Monday, rising 3.5% following Trump’s remarks. Consequently, the International Energy Agency warned the global economy faces a “major, major threat” from the war’s disruption to oil and gas flows.

On the diplomatic front, Pakistan brokered an understanding allowing 20 commercial ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Nevertheless, tensions remain dangerously high. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned they will completely shut the Strait of Hormuz if Trump executes his threats against Iranian energy facilities.

Moreover, Iran’s parliament speaker dismissed the Pakistan talks as a cover to move more US troops into the area. He added that Iranian forces stand ready to confront any ground invasion.

Overall, more than 2,000 people have died across the Middle East as the war enters its fifth week. Therefore, analysts warn that without a verified diplomatic breakthrough, the crisis risks spiralling into an even wider regional conflict.
