No Kings Protests, Millions of Americans took to the streets on Saturday, March 28, for the third national “No Kings” protest day. Organizers registered over 3,100 events across all 50 states. Demonstrations stretched from major cities to small towns, drawing large crowds in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
However, violence erupted in two cities in the evening. In Los Angeles, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that roughly 1,000 agitators surrounded the Roybal Federal Building. Consequently, federal officers deployed tear gas and pepper balls after repeated warnings. Agitators hurled large concrete blocks, bottles, and other objects over the facility’s fence, injuring two officers who then received medical care. Moreover, the LAPD declared a “tactical alert” and confirmed multiple arrests after individuals refused to disperse near the downtown DHS building.
Meanwhile, tensions similarly escalated in Portland, Oregon. The Portland Police Bureau announced three arrests after “No Kings” protests outside the city’s ICE facility turned violent. Furthermore, a 26-year-old man named Isiah Lee climbed onto the facility’s lower roof and vandalized it, leading to charges of first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal trespass. In addition, police issued a public warning stating that anyone who breached the ICE facility’s doors would be arrested.
Nevertheless, organizers emphasized that the broader movement stayed largely peaceful. Indivisible Co-Executive Director Leah Greenberg told Newsweek the defining story was not just how many people protested, but where they protested. Additionally, two-thirds of those who RSVPed for the weekend event lived outside major urban centers, nearly 40 percent more than the first “No Kings Protests” event in June 2025.
Finally, organizers signaled plans to continue building toward future protests.
