Iran Warns a bold warning of war. Iran’s Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf declared Sunday that Iranian forces stand ready to face US troops on the ground. Furthermore, he accused Washington of double-dealing. Ghalibaf charged that the US “publicly sends messages of negotiation while secretly planning a ground invasion.” Additionally, he warned that Iranian fighters would “unleash devastation” upon any entering troops.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon has sharply escalated its military posture. The Washington Post reported that the Pentagon is preparing for weeks of limited ground operations in Iran, potentially including raids on Kharg Island and coastal sites near the Strait of Hormuz. Moreover, the USS Tripoli, carrying 3,500 sailors and Marines, has already arrived in the Middle East.
However, Trump has not yet approved any ground plans. The White House confirmed that the Pentagon is working to give the president “maximum optionality,” but stressed that he has made no decision. Nevertheless, military analysts warn of serious dangers ahead. Retired Admiral James Stavridis cautioned that Iranians “will do everything they can to inflict maximum casualties on US forces.”
Meanwhile, Iran warns actively fortifies its defenses. Iran has moved additional military personnel, air defenses, and anti-personnel mines to Kharg Island in preparation for a possible US operation. Consequently, military experts call any island seizure deeply risky. Retired Lt. Col. Daniel Davis estimated that only around 4,000 to 5,000 ground troops are currently deployed enough to seize a small target temporarily.
Therefore, as diplomacy stalls and troops pour in, the US-Iran standoff edges toward direct ground conflict.
