Pakistan US-Iran talks offer to Host Peace Talks Within Days

Pakistan US-Iran talks steps boldly into the global diplomatic spotlight. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced Sunday that Islamabad stands ready to facilitate peace talks between the US and Iran in the coming days.

Ishaq Dar, who also serves as deputy prime minister, made the declaration in a televised briefing. Furthermore, he confirmed that the talks aimed at reaching a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the ongoing conflict.

Notably, Pakistan now serves as the central interlocutor between Iran and the US, passing messages between the two. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a detailed phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, lasting over an hour, as part of preparations for the Islamabad initiative.

Additionally, foreign ministers from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt met in Islamabad to push both sides closer to the negotiating table. Consequently, the ministers advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable pathway to prevent further conflict and promote regional peace.

However, obstacles remain. Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf accused the US of using negotiations as cover while secretly planning a ground invasion. Nevertheless, China conveyed support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts and encouraged Iran to engage with the diplomatic process.

Moreover, Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated he expected a direct US-Iran meeting in Pakistan very soon. Still, it remains unclear whether the US and Iran have formally accepted Pakistan’s offer, or whether Israel will agree to the talks.

Ultimately, officials suggest that the next 48 to 72 hours will determine whether this diplomatic push results in a concrete meeting.
