Iran Rejects Trump’s Hormuz Claims During Negotiation Talks

March 27, 2026 – Iran-US Conflict 2026

Iran publicly dismissed President Donald Trump’s statements about the Strait of Hormuz as “false.” Tehran denied any direct negotiations with Washington, even as Trump declared talks were “going very well.”

Trump announced on Truth Social that he extended a pause on strikes against Iranian energy plants until April 6, 2026. He credited the delay to Iranian cooperation, claiming Tehran allowed oil tankers through the strait as a goodwill gesture.

Iran’s government fired back sharply. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf wrote on X that “no negotiations have been held with the US.” He accused Trump of using talk of diplomacy to distract global markets and escape a military deadlock.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi acknowledged exchanges of messages through mediators but insisted that this did not constitute negotiations with the U.S.

Meanwhile, the blockade tightens. The IRGC Navy declared that any traffic through the Strait of Hormuz faces a severe response. Maritime tracking data confirmed Chinese-owned cargo ships reversed course after entering the strait on Friday.

Iran presented five conditions to end the war. These include full recognition of Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and the guarantee of war reparations payments.

Markets reacted sharply to the escalating standoff. Brent crude oil surged 4.8% to $101.89 per barrel, up from roughly $70 before the war began. The S&P 500 fell 1.7%, marking its worst single-day performance since January.

UN Secretary-General Antรณnio Guterres warned that the Strait’s prolonged closure is choking the flow of oil, gas, and fertilizer during the global planting season.

The April 6 deadline now looms. Both sides hold firm, and the world watches a crisis with no clear resolution in sight.
