Iran Fires Cluster Missiles at Central Israel on Day 27 of War

Friday, March 27, 2026

TEL AVIV Iran unleashed another barrage of cluster munition-equipped ballistic missiles at central Israel in the early hours of Friday, marking Day 27 of the conflict that erupted on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure.

The war ignited after U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations collapsed completely, with Washington and Tel Aviv citing Iran’s relentless advancement of its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes. Those strikes also killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, triggering an escalatory chain of retaliatory fire that now defines the conflict’s daily rhythm.

Israel’s multi-layered air defense network, Arrow, David’s Sling, and Iron Dome sprang into action during Friday’s barrage. The IDF confirmed it neutralized the incoming threats and reported zero injuries, though military officials warned that cluster warhead interceptions do not always stop the dispersed submunitions from reaching the ground.

Cluster missiles have emerged as the war’s defining tactical challenge. An Israeli military official confirmed that roughly half of all ballistic missiles Iran fired carried cluster warheads, each releasing dozens of bomblets at high altitude and scattering them across wide areas, making interception far more difficult than with conventional warheads. Security officials estimate Iran has now hurled approximately 250 cluster missiles at Israel during this conflict, dwarfing the three that struck during last year’s 12-day war.

On the diplomatic front, a senior Iranian official confirmed receiving a 15-point US. peace proposal delivered through Pakistan, with Turkey also driving mediation efforts. The Pentagon simultaneously moved to deploy up to 10,000 additional ground troops to the region, giving President Trump broader military leverage at the negotiating table.

For millions of Israelis, sirens, shelters, and falling debris still define every day with no clear end yet in sight.
